Dr Garsing Wong & Wen-Pei Margaret Chen are pioneers of facial shaping / facial slimming with Botox®, teaching specialist all over the world, their unique Botox® technique for the slimming of benign masseteric hypertrophy. Dr Garsing Wong now offers Belkyra® to dissolve submental fat (double chin region) as well as Cooltech® Cryolipolysis. Which method depends on your individual anatomy and your personal preference.
Facial shaping also known as nonsurgical facial slimming, to reduce benign masseteric hypertrophy for changing a square face using Botox® either on its own or combined with lipolysis or fat dissolving was first introduced here by Dr Garsing Wong. Together with Wen-Pei (Margaret) Chen, their technique has been published in the June 2011 issue of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, Vol 10, pages 93-96.

Note how the lower contour of the face is better highlighted, giving a crisp, better defined lower jowl region. The weight of the patient did not change. Note how the aesthetic quality of the face is enhanced when a more feminine triangular / heart shape is produced in the lower face.
Botox® at Auckland Cosmetic Medicine Clinic Ltd - Sapphire Appearance Medicine Clinic is also used off-label to treat bruxism (teeth grinding which can cause TMJ or temporomandibular pain, headaches or even cracked teeth) as well as aesthetically enhancing your face. Some patients prefer not to have a slightly squarish face which is due to the masseter muscle flaring our in the lower edges, and to correct this, Botox®, a natural purified protein, is painlessly administered directly into the masseter (jaw muscle) to give a more V shape to your face which is characteristically more feminine. Conversely, in men, a smaller dose is given to retain a more masculine jawline.
Below is a typical before and after photo showing the potential effect of just injecting Botox® to the masseter muscle for non surgical facial contouring or treating benign masseteric hypertrophy. The effect takes at least two months before it is apparent and the change can last for more than a year in most patients using the high dose approach. If using the low dose approach, then the treatment needs to be repeated every few months.
Before / After Botox® for Facial Shaping
Within two months, you can already see the effect which can last from 6 months to 2 years depending on the dose of Botox® used. The most common comment the patients tell us is that everyone thinks that they have lost weight as their face has slimmed down. Although a single high dose treatment using Botox® to the masseter can achieve a result lasting for over a year, it is better to maintain the desired shape with more frequent, smaller doses of Botox® every 6 to 9 months.
Dr Wong has treated hundreds patients for facial shaping or facial slimming and he can combine this technique with other methods to non-surgically tighten the skin in the region to further enhance your features especially suited to patients where the jowl region requires more definition.

BOTOX®is a Prescription Medicine containing 100 units of botulinum toxin type A for injection(Please note, in America, the generic name for Botox is onabotulinumtoxinA which is exactly the same. Refer to the FDA Press Release dated August 3, 2009).
It is used for the treatment of frown lines. It should be administered only by trained medical professionals. Talk to your specialist about the benefits/risks of this procedure in appearance medicine.
Cautions: People with defective neuro-muscular transmission disorders, infection at site of injection, glaucoma, pregnancy and lactation.
Possible side effects include headaches, pain, burning or redness at injection site, local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids, lack of feeling and nausea. If you have any side effects or concerns speak to your doctor.
