What is the difference between Hair Transplantation and Hairstetics Synthetic Hair Implantation?
The two complete different approaches depends totally on your individual situation. Hair transplantation is a permanent solution for hair loss in normal health person and can offer a long term solution. Typically men with Androgenetic Alopecia (Male pattern baldness) over the age of 25 years, are better suited to have a hair transplant. Hair is transferred from the "healthy safe zone" which is not sensitive to Dihydrotesterone (DHT) and surgically grafted into the desired areas. The procedure is done by a team lead by Drs Garsing Wong and Thomas Doo, who are the first New Zealand born, and trained doctors in New Zealand to offer this surgery using the state of the art multiphasic Trivellini device to remove the hair follicles. For more information on transplantation, you may wish to visit www.nzhairtransplant.co.nz.
Suitable women may also prefer to have hair transplantation, and unlike in the past, where the recipient site (site where the hair is placed) was shaved, this can be achieved without shaving, however due to the extra time required, the procedure will cost more. The donor site (that is the area where the hair is taken) will still need to be shaved. Transplanting unshaved long hair, runs an increased risk that the hair may be traumatically fall out before the stem cells get a chance to seed in the scalp.
What makes Hairstetics Synthetic Hair Implant Unique and Safe:
Hairstetics Synthetic Hair Implant is unique because of the patented hair anchoring device, that firmly holds the implanted synthetic hair more than twice as strong that natural hair.
Hairstetics Synthetic Hair Implant is safe because the materials used have a long history of medical use, and are proven to be biocompatible.
As with all medical devices, individual responses may occur, and one can develop inflammatory reactions, that may mean the implant is not compatible and may need to be removed or have ongoing medical management.
What to expect when you are implanted with Hairstetics Synthetic Hair
Detailed mapping of the scalp is required. There is at present, a total of 7 different synthetic hair colours to choose from, two different lengths namely 18 cm and 40 cm long, and straight as well as wavey synthetic hair options. The scalp is thoroughly cleaned. Local anaesthetic is applied to the region. The Hairstetics Synthetic Hair comes in preloaded cartridges which are painlessly, and quickly implanted into your scalp. In less than 30 minutes, the procedure is completed. You will need to follow the aftercare instructions, antibiotic cream needs to be applied to the implantation site, oral antibiotics are required. After three days you will need to shampoo your hair with specially formulated shampoo for the next week.
At first the new Hairstetics Synthetic Hair will feel a little firmer than your natural hair, however within a week, you will notice the Hairstetics Synthetic Hair will blend in naturally with your own hair.
WHAT IS Hairstetics®?
It is a safe, synthetic biocompatible nylon with a patented anchoring system that is implanted into your scalp with a preloaded cartridge to give you a natural looking result that will blend in with your own hair. Hairstetics is a medical device company headquartered in Tel Aviv, Isreal, with a daughter company in Geneva, Switzerland.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Hairstetics Synthetic Hair is implanted to the region to treat androgenic alopecia in Men and Women. There are 7 different synthetic hair colours in two different lengths - 18 cm and 40cm long, either straight or wavy to choose from.
WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT INVOLVE?
After a paid consultation with Dr Garsing Wong (please ask the staff what the current consultation charge is) to ensure the suitability of the treatment then a pretreatment implantation is arranged. Discomfort is typically minimal and brief as local anaesthetic is applied. After the implantation, you will be given specific after care instructions, and medications. The result is immediate. You will not need to cut your hair for the procedure. The time for the procedure is approximately 30 minutes.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Clinical studies using Hairstetics® Synthetic Hair have been over three years long, showing no serious adverse effects, and good longivity of the implants.
WILL THE TREATMENT CAUSE ME TO LOSE MORE HAIR?
No. Because the patented unique anchor system in Hairstetics Synthetic Hair implants mimic the anatomical structure of our own natural hairs making it is unlikely that your own hair will be damaged in the process.
WILL IT LOOK NATURAL?
Yes. Initally, you will notice that the Hairstetics Synthetic Hair will be firmer than your natural hair, however with time, the Hairstetic Synthetic Hair will blend into your natural hair. Patients comment how difficult it is to distinguish between their natural hair and the implanted Hairstetics Synthetic Hair.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS WITH HAIRSTETICS®?
As long as the post procedure instructions are adhered to, then the likelihood of side effects are minimal.
Possible side effects include headaches, pain, burning, bruising or redness at the injection site, lack of feeling, skin tightness and infection.
IS THE PROCEDURE REVERSIBLE?
Yes, should for any reason either yourself or Dr Wong feels that it is in your best interest to remove the implants, then this can be safely done under local anaesthetic.
CAN I DYE/COLOUR MY HAIR AFTER RECEIVING HAIRSTETICS SYNTHETIC HAIR IMPLANTATION?
Yes, you may safely dye/colour your hair three weeks after the procedure after consulting with Dr Wong to ensure all is well. However you may not use ammonia based hair dyes.
DO I NEED TO INFORM MY HAIRSTYLIST AND WHAT DO I TELL THEM?
As this is a new procedure, it is unlikely your hairstylist is aware of the procedure. If at all possible, invite your hairstylist to attend with you when you have the full implantation, so that they understand the procedure.
You will need to discuss with your stylist, how you would like to have your hair in the future, as the Hairstetic Synthetic Hair Implants do not grow with your natural hair. Special care will be needed when shampoos your hair, and combs your hair, so that the Hairstetics Synthetic Hair can be supported when tangles are combed out.
